This April, Pinterest is recognizing Global Month of Service alongside Earth Month and Global Volunteer Month. To mark the moment, we’re spotlighting one of our Impact Ambassadors — regional leads who help bring volunteer efforts to life in their communities. Meet Shreyas Kulkarni, Lead Data Analyst and Bay Area Impact Ambassador, as he reflects on five years at Pinterest, what giving back means to him and how he supports his community through service.
Working at Pinterest
I joined Pinterest in 2021 as a Senior Analyst after a friend in Trust & Safety referred me to a role on what was then Community Operations. I was excited to join Pinterest because I was looking for a company whose mission felt genuinely positive and authentic. Now, I work as a Data Analyst on the Pinterest Support Operations (PSO) team, where we support both technical and non-technical questions from advertisers, business partners, merchants, content producers, and users. Since joining, I’ve grown a lot in my role and was promoted to Lead Analyst. My time at Pinterest has given me the chance to learn, take on new challenges, and meet so many great people.

Inspiring impact
My passion for giving back comes from growing up in the Bay Area and seeing both the incredible innovation here and the real inequities that exist alongside it. This is a place where people build things that shape the world, but at the same time, many long-time community members have been pushed out or left behind. That’s shaped how I think about community and why I believe companies have a responsibility to give back to the places they grow in. It’s one of the reasons I’m proud to work at Pinterest.

I try to show up for my community in ways that feel direct and tangible, especially through education. For the past four years, I’ve done weekly math tutoring with SMART SF, working with middle school students. Seeing their confidence grow alongside their grades has reminded me how meaningful small, consistent support can be.
I decided to take on the Impact Ambassador role because it feels like a chance to help connect Pinterest more deeply with the community around us. I’m excited by the opportunity to bring employees together around causes that matter and support the Bay Area communities I grew up with.
Global Month of Service
This Global Month of Service, I’m really excited to help promote the events we have going on and encourage more people to get involved. I’ll also be leading events at Bessie Carmichael Elementary and Middle Schools in San Francisco, where we’ll be helping with a few projects like setting up a sensory room, cleaning out classrooms, and doing some work on their garden.
For me, Earth Month and Global Month of Service are a good reminder that giving back can take a lot of different forms, and even small efforts can make a real difference. It’s exciting to be part of work that feels hands-on and directly helpful to the community.
One final thought I’d leave is that community impact really starts with people showing up. I’m grateful to be part of a company that creates those opportunities, and I’m excited to help bring more people into them.
