As Erika Wang, Managing Director of Greater China Sales, grows her team in Singapore, she’s helping shape what’s next for Pinterest across APAC. In this conversation, Erika shares what brought her to Pinterest, how her team helps Greater China advertisers connect with audiences around the world and why joining this team offers the chance to do meaningful work with both regional and global impact.

Hi Erika, thanks for joining us today to share more about leading teams in Singapore, and congratulations on your third work anniversary at Pinterest! What led you here three years ago?

Three years ago, I was approached with an opportunity to build a Singapore-based Sales team at Pinterest. I love to create and find new areas of potential for a business; so this role was an intriguing prospect for me. As a longtime user of Pinterest, I also felt like it was the type of platform that I not only enjoy using, but feel it aligns with me in that it feels like a safe space for creation.

Throughout the interview process, the people on the panel were great individuals – something that has remained true even after three years here. When I asked each person, “Why do you stay?” They all said, “The people.” There’s not a right or wrong answer to that question, but that was the right answer for me to feel comfortable moving companies. While the work that you do matters, it’s equally important to to work with kind, collaborative colleagues.

The endless possibilities with this role and where I could take the business over the coming years were too exciting to turn down, so I decided to take the leap and join the team.

Can you share more about the Greater China Sales team and insight into the work you all do to drive meaningful impact for advertisers and users in the region?

There’s a great manufacturing power in China, producing the majority of goods people use daily across the world. I have a personal connection to this industry, as my family owns goods and services factories in the region and I grew up connected to the people who are diligently producing quality goods and looking for opportunities to sell globally.

Our team at Pinterest provides that opportunity. We help advertisers and merchants in China sell their products to a global audience. This is a mission that is close to my heart, and it’s something that my team and I feel passionate about.

Your team is growing! What do you want job seekers to know about the opportunities at Pinterest, and what makes now an exciting time to join the team in Singapore?

Our rapid expansion in Singapore is a clear signal: Pinterest is deeply committed to investing in the APAC market.

We are driven by a powerful mission, to bring everyone the inspiration to create a life they love. As a leader in visual search, we occupy a highly unique position in the digital landscape. Unlocking that potential and harnessing it for our customers is incredibly rewarding work.

With Singapore newly established as our APAC headquarters and a new regional VP at the helm, we are actively building out our teams and driving collaboration across the region. Joining us right now means getting in on the ground floor to help establish new ways of working. You’ll have the kind of runway to make a massive, tangible impact that you simply won't find at a more entrenched company. The GCR market is incredibly dynamic and constantly evolving—fueled by emerging verticals and innovative business models. Even after more than a decade working in this space, I still learn something new every single day.

When you think about your time at Pinterest so far, what is the most important thing you’ve learned – either as a leader, teammate, or user of the product?

The past three years have been an incredible, educational journey.  I honestly didn't anticipate just how large this team would grow, and I am consistently in awe of the speed at which we’ve scaled across APAC. As a leader, my greatest lesson—and my biggest source of pride—has been seeing how this team shows up. We are deeply collaborative, united in our goals and we truly embody the core values of Pinterest. I also have really high hopes for the team that we are continuing to build right now.

As a user, the platform itself has completely shifted my perspective. In previous roles across the industry, the goal of social media was always to glue people to a screen, optimizing for "time spent" at all costs. Pinterest breaks that mold. We actively want to inspire people to live better lives offline. It’s a remarkably bold and confident stance for a digital platform to take.

We don’t want people to doomscroll and feel unfulfilled. We want to empower and inspire them to step away from the screen and actually live out their inspiration. I’ve also learned that you can balance purpose with commercial success, they can actually fuel each other. It’s a completely new paradigm for how users, platforms, and advertisers interact, and it has completely reshaped how I view the power of social media.

We’re not only employees, we’re also avid Pinterest users ourselves. What are you currently saving on the platform?

I’m actually planning a ski trip over the holidays, which will be a brand new experience for me and my family. Naturally, the way that I plan is to get excited through fashion. Skills aside, I want to arrive and ski in style. I’m saving a lot of alpine looks and après ski outfits for different occasions.

One of the things I appreciate most about our platform is the sheer diversity of its content. Instead of just surfacing fleeting, everyday trends, Pinterest helps me find exactly what I'm looking for. It creates a highly personalized experience where I can seamlessly connect with the things that genuinely inspire me.
