In our Pinpoint series, the Life at Pinterest team puts the spotlight on one of our global regions to meet an employee driving impact for users and advertisers. Today, we headed to Brazil to meet Javier Soto, Sr. Manager, Communications, LATAM, and learn more about his six and half years leading communications for Latin America and expanding his scope to include the US-based Spanish-speaking population.
Hi Javier! Thanks for joining us. What led you to the Pinterest team in 2019 and how has your career progressed in your time here?
When I was lucky enough to join Pinterest at the beginning of 2019, I had already had the privilege of working with Pinterest, but externally. During 2017 and 2018, I led Pinterest’s communications efforts for Mexico at the PR and communications agency the company worked with at the time. That made me even more eager to join Pinterest, since I already knew the brand, was aware of everything it was doing back then, and was very interested in continuing to build Pinterest’s image with the media, but now from an in-house position. That felt like a dream come true!
I still remember my first days at Pinterest in São Paulo, when we were a team of fewer than fifteen people, in an office much smaller than the one we have now, and where most of the team was a part of our Global Content Organization (GCO) team. Now, it literally feels like a different company and I’ve grown so much professionally since then!
As a member of the Communications team, you’re at the center of many business campaigns. Which one has been your favorite to work on?
In my early years at Pinterest, I think the most exciting moments were the Ads launches and the press announcement of monetization in the Latin American markets, which included a super fun and productive cross-functional trip with the sales, marketing and GCO teams to Argentina and Chile in 2022. We had two major events and several press interviews, and I remember it as one of the most interesting moments of my career so far.
More recently, without a doubt, it’s been the expansion of my scope to lead communications efforts for US Hispanics. In 2024, I had the privilege of going on a media tour to meet with top Hispanic media journalists in Miami and New York, which also led to several opportunities to get Pinterest featured on Spanish-language TV in the United States, including for Pinterest Predicts and our Wedding Trends Report! And of course, Coachella!! I never thought I’d go to the festival, let alone for work, and being part of the comms team working at Coachella this year was an unforgettable experience.

Finish this sentence: People might be surprised to learn that Pinterest employees…
… really work at an amazing company! A lot of people, when they find out I work at Pinterest, immediately say how lucky I am and what a cool place it must be to work. And honestly, it’s true, it’s not just a false impression at all. We work hard, yes, but for a company with a truly inspiring mission and filled with incredibly talented professionals who are always willing to help you out day to day.
What do you love most about the São Paulo office?
Besides the people, of course, I’d say it’s how practical and comfortable it is. It’s a beautiful office, very Brazilian, really well decorated, very charming but extremely practical for getting work done. I love the spaces, the meeting rooms and I think it’s an incredibly pleasant office to work in.

How are you currently finding inspiration on Pinterest?
I think it’s getting easier and easier to find exactly what I’m looking for on Pinterest. I’ve been a user since long before I joined the company, but most of my boards were about food (lots of pasta, Spanish and Latin American recipes) and home decor, a lot of decor! However, for about a year now, most of my searches have been about style, men’s clothing, and accessories, and I think Pinterest is really helping me define (or redefine) my style and slowly start to try new ways of dressing.
I’ve also had a board called “wishlist” for years, with all kinds of things (from shoes to home decor items and cooking products) that just keeps growing!
