Manifesting a career you love with Silver Estrada

Hey, I’m Silver Estrada, a Product Designer II, with a beautiful story to tell about my path to Pinterest. As a long-time power user of the product, I knew I wanted to be in a space where I could motivate and inspire others through my lifestyle and career. I decided to set an intention to secure my dream job, and after hard work, dedication and persistence (as well as a little bit of faith!), I finally landed. I started at Pinterest in October 2024, but my journey with the company began years prior after a career pivot. My story is unique, and I hope it empowers you to manifest a career that you love at Pinterest too. Let’s dive in!

Visualize it, actualize it

For me, if I can visualize it, I believe I can do it — that in itself encourages me to live with intention, move in style and purposely curate a life I want to live without fear or doubt. One that drives me to become the best version of myself, and motivates and shapes those around me. That’s a big part of why I love Pinterest — a visual search platform that consistently delivers aspirational content that truly inspires and empowers you to take action.

On a personal level, that ranges from health and wellness, self-care, travel to home decor and everything in between. I literally have hundreds of boards for all of life’s moments, whether I’m starting a new project, updating my wardrobe, or finding my next meal to prepare. Pinterest is a powerful visual tool that can truly elevate all areas of your life, if you leverage it.

On a professional level, when I realized I wanted to work on powerful tools that could transform lives, I made a career transition from sales and business leadership into product design — since then, I knew in my heart I wanted to join Pinterest.

Forming meaningful connections

After being at my previous company for nine years, transitioning to another company meant I needed to be bought into the mission and passionate about where I was headed. One thing I loved about Pinterest was the core values and how inclusion and belonging is woven into the fabric of everything we do.

It’s important to me, as an Afro-latina woman, to be represented in these spaces, where I could drive impact, bring my unique set of experiences, and show up confidently and authentically, every day. Not only is that essential for my own experience, but also for others, as we continue to pave the way for women of color in Tech.

When I found out that Pinterest was a sponsor of AfroTech in 2022, I was intentional about how I wanted to show up. My whole AfroTech experience was centered around building meaningful connections with Pinterest, and I was so excited to attend. I signed up for Pinterest’s networking event and found my way inside ready to chat with the Recruiting team. That day changed everything.

While bonding with the team, I made a point not to just focus on my design credentials, accolades and accomplishments, but instead, to leave a lasting impression through my authentic experience, passion for Pinterest, shared values and interests, and real struggles and challenges — one that would carry me through numerous conversations and trial runs post my AfroTech experience.

With that said, my journey to Pinterest wasn’t linear — it required persistence, commitment and drive. Even after applying to a role that wasn’t the right fit, I stayed positive and pushed forward, never losing hope. I maintained my relationships, kept the conversations flowing, and despite the uncertainty, I stayed engaged and navigated the ambiguity. I truly leaned into the power of meaningful connections.

Manifesting my dream career

After a two-year pipeline of building relationships, I decided to shoot my shot and apply for a new opportunity. Eventually, I landed my dream job. Now, I’m on a team I love that empowers me to do my best work and fuels me everyday.

Pinterest is deeply committed to our mission of bringing everyone the inspiration to create a life they love, and proactively strives to be a positive place on the internet. That commitment can be seen through the quality and breadth of work we do day in and day out, and I am proud to be a part of a thriving culture.

There’s still so much work ahead, and I’m looking forward to pushing the needle on what is possible, while continuing to make my biggest dreams a reality — and if I can do it, you can too.
