Hopefully, you being here is an indication that you want to learn more about our local Pinterest team in Sydney, so let me say a warm hello! You’ve come to the right place. My name’s Dee, and I’m a Lead Client Partner at Pinterest Australia.
I had no idea what to expect when I joined Pinterest over three and a half years ago. I was stepping out of the traditional media publishing space and into the “fast-paced working environment of the tech world”! While I had scored myself a great new role at the company given my transferable skill set, I was realistic in knowing I still had plenty to learn. To be perfectly honest, I was nervous and worried. Starting a new role in tech, coupled with a return to work after 11 months of maternity leave, posed a challenge in more ways than one. However, regardless of creeping doubts, potential imposter syndrome and mushy baby brain, I was prepared to make it work – no matter how many curve balls came my way!
Well, suffice to say, there wasn’t a curve ball in sight. Instead, I discovered a community of global and local Pinterest employees thrilled to have me join their team. They were ready, willing and able to support and coach me through everything required. Both professionally and personally, I was set up for success.
To this day it's still the one thing that stands out in my mind. It’s what clearly differentiates Pinterest from other businesses I’ve worked for – the people and the incredible working culture that they each contribute to. Not only are my peers and leaders some of the smartest, creative and innovative people I’ve worked with, they’re also genuine, passionate and ridiculously kind.
The Pinterest team in Sydney is a diverse collective. Our commitment to creating an environment for collaboration has been a key factor in propelling our growth and success. It’s been a momentous year for our business - surpassing half a billion monthly active users worldwide, new ad products and user features, such as board preview. Plus, a growing ANZ team. Though equally important, and beyond the numbers, I’ve also been so grateful for the energy and effort the business puts into crafting moments and initiatives that bring our team together to acknowledge and celebrate employee individuality and community. These experiences include important cultural and heritage learning sessions, our Pride Party, International Women’s Day celebration, Clean Up the Beach Day and Pinterest Run Club.
My journey at Pinterest has been exceptionally rewarding. A growth story driven by me, yet underpinned by my leaders and peers. Beyond the scope of my sales role, I love leveraging my background in media and content strategy to lead and collaborate on broader projects and initiatives to make a more meaningful impact on our business, as well as our brand and creator partners.
I also love the flexibility that Pinterest provides me as a working parent. It’s imperative that I'm able to balance family life while still being effective in my role. Pinterest understands the importance of work-life balance and provides the support and resources needed to navigate the challenges of being a working mum. This flexibility allows me to show up for my kids when they need me most, while still being able to excel in my role and contribute to the success of our team.
In a nutshell, Pinterest is an amazing place to work! It's a hub where passion and purpose intertwine, and creativity flourishes without limits. Here, inspiration and teamwork blend seamlessly, allowing big ideas to evolve into even greater innovative solutions. Being part of this vibrant and visionary company ignites my passion, sparks my imagination and motivates me to achieve excellence every single day.
