Program overviews

As a Pintern, you’ll be working alongside current Pinployees on high impact, high exposure projects. Throughout your internship, you’ll help us as we maneuver through crazy growth and insane scale while building awesome products and features, creating visually rich experiences, spearheading the discovery problem, and pinpointing tomorrow’s engineering challenges. We offer a 12-week summer internship program in our San Francisco, Palo Alto, Seattle and Toronto offices.

What we’re looking for:

  • Pursuing a CS degree (or related field)
  • 2+ years of CS classes under your belt (Intro to CS and Algorithms, Advanced Algorithms, Operating Systems and Data Structures are all great!)
  • Aptitude for JavaScript, CSS, C++, HTML, Python, Java, Go–we use a variety of programming languages and tools
  • Non-academic coding experience (i.e. hack-a-thons, code challenges, personal projects, GitHub, Open Source, volunteer coding experience, conference participation, Grace Hopper, etc.)
  • A curious nature with a desire to tackle and solve complex problems

What you’ll do:

  • Dive into the code base on your very first day
  • Work on high impact projects and help build the future of Pinterest
  • Collaborate with engineers across our organization to build new features from scratch
  • Continually grow both professionally and personally through various learning and development opportunities
As a research intern at Pinterest Labs, you’ll work on tackling new challenges in machine learning and artificial intelligence. You’ll conduct research that can be applied across Pinterest engineering teams and engage in external collaborations and mentoring, while also performing research in any of the following areas: image recognition, user modeling, recommender systems, natural language processing, and big data analytics. We offer a 12-week summer internship program in our San Francisco, Palo Alto, Seattle and Toronto offices.

What we’re looking for:

  • Working towards a PhD in Computer Science, ML, NLP, Statistics, Information Sciences or related field
  • Mastery of at least one systems languages (Java, C++, Python) or one ML framework (Tensorflow, Pytorch, MLFlow)
  • Experience in research and in solving analytical problems
  • Strong communicator and team player. Being able to find solutions for open-ended problems

What you’ll do:

  • Participate in cutting-edge research in machine learning and artificial intelligence
  • Contribute research that can be applied to Pinterest problems
  • Collect, analyze, and synthesize findings from data and build intelligent data-driven model
  • Write clean, efficient, and sustainable code
  • Use machine learning, natural language processing, and graph analysis to solve modeling and ranking problems across discovery, ads and search

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Publications in machine learning, AI, data science, data analytics, statistics, or related technical fields
  • Strong passion for research and for answering hard questions with research
  • Passion for applied ML and the Pinterest product
We’re looking for Data Science interns to help build and scale Pinterest’s approach to experimentation so we can accelerate innovation on our product. You’ll apply quantitative analysis, statistical techniques and data mining skills to understand the limitations of running hundreds of simultaneous experiments, help us draw reliable insights with a fraction of the data, enable us to simplify the interpretation of experiments, and scale the number of experiments we run at Pinterest.

What we’re looking for:

  • Currently pursuing a MS or Phd in Statistics, Industrial Engineering, Computer Science, Math, Operations Research, Computational Biology, Computational Physics, or another related field
  • Experience using Python, R, or SQL
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to tell a complete narrative using data
  • Ability to connect data analysis to real business problems in order to impact business performance

What you’ll do:

  • Perform deep dive analysis to understand and optimize the key levers of our ads and search ecosystems
  • Design core metrics that serve as the North Stars for team efforts and model trade offs across product areas
  • Explore alternative experimentation techniques to help internal teams evaluate their ideas faster
  • Apply statistics, modeling, and/or ML to improve the efficiency of systems and relevance algorithms across Search, Home Feed, and Related Pins
  • Work with product managers and engineers to design data products and debug A/B experiments
At Pinterest, we’re organically growing our team and product, and part of that growth includes infusing our team with Pinterns. We operate with a lean growth and field sales teams focused on optimization and driving results for our advertisers. As a sales intern at Pinterest, you’ll work on impactful projects alongside current Pinployees, while also learning about all aspects of a growing online ads business. We offer a 12 week summer internship program during the academic year in our three major sales office hubs: San Francisco, Chicago, and New York.

What we’re looking for:

  • Pursuing an undergraduate degree in Marketing, Business, Analytics, Mathematics (or similar field)
  • Analytical skills that can be applied to campaign performance or optimization recommendations. Experience in Excel, SQL and Tableau helpful
  • Excellent presentation, communication and collaboration skills
  • Experience with PowerPoint and/or Google Slides required
  • Non-academic experience (e.g. personal projects, volunteer experience, conference participation, etc.)
  • A curious nature with a desire to tackle and solve complex problems
  • An interest in building a career in ad sales at a fast paced company
  • Passionate about Pinterest, our products, and business solutions

What you’ll do:

  • Partner with sales account teams to lead business related projects that may include analyzing advertiser businesses and industries, developing marketing narratives from Pinterest insights, and analyzing macro advertising performance trends to inform future strategies.
  • Gain foundational experience with online advertising campaign management, measurement solutions, and creative strategy.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships to work cross-functionally on dynamic Pinterest Sales team challenges.
