Moushmi Verma, Pinterest Engineering Manager, joins Life at Pinterest for a discussion about leading two dynamic teams, why she loves working at Pinterest and advice to those interviewing.
Hi Moushmi, thanks for joining us! Can you share more about your role and how you learned about the opportunity to join Pinterest?
I’m Moushmi, and I’m an Engineering Manager. I’m actually celebrating my two-year work anniversary this month. I lead two teams at Pinterest – Release Engineering and Quality Excellence. The Release Engineering team drives mobile releases, select service deployments and release automation ensuring that the Pinterest app and services are available and working as expected. Quality Excellence is a new team based in Mexico City that we built last year to uplevel the quality of our product.
When I discovered the opportunity to join Pinterest, I had recently started searching for a new position and came across the job posting on LinkedIn. Upon reviewing the role's description, I felt that my skills and experience closely aligned with the requirements. Release Engineering was an area I had been actively involved in during my previous role and wished to continue pursuing; my experience was a strong match for what Pinterest was seeking. I promptly applied, went through the interview process, and received an offer to join the company. During my first year, I solely led the Release Engineering team, and in the following year, I was given the opportunity to establish a brand new engineering team in Mexico City.

What energizes you about being a manager on the Pinterest Engineering team?
For me, Pinterest as a workplace is really a happy corner, similar to what we say about the product. There’s a lot of autonomy to drive initiatives, and at the same time, we empower our individual contributors to step up and create an impact as well. As a manager, we’re there to guide our team and provide them opportunities, helping them think outside the box while having their backs.
One of our core values at Pinterest is, “Win or Learn,” which really resonates with me and shows up a lot at Pinterest. We execute fast, and I always witness multiple teams coming together to find solutions. The sense of ownership and determination demonstrated by our engineers is truly commendable; and that really makes me happy.

When someone asks you, “Why Pinterest?” what's the first thing that comes to mind?
I would say ‘People’; everybody here is amazing. It’s a great work culture at Pinterest. As a team, we uplift each other, and that’s what takes us forward. Even as an engineering manager, there’s so much to learn. Working with smart people and learning from them is incredibly fulfilling and enriching.
I also love the product itself. Using Pinterest always leaves me feeling happy and inspired. It's motivating to be part of the team that's building this platform, and working together toward the same goal of making Pinterest even better.
What advice would you give to someone interviewing at Pinterest?
You don’t need to know everything. It’s not just about solving the problem, it’s about how you went about it, understanding the prompts, your ability to collaborate and how you work. For anyone who interviews, I encourage you to come with an open mind and a willingness to learn. It’s a brand new challenge, and there will be new learnings, opportunities for growth and community building. We’re here to support you, and we want you to be successful.
What Pinterest board is currently inspiring you?
Many of my recent boards are focused on nail inspiration, and I've been trying out some of the nail art designs at home. Pinterest always inspires us to make home improvements, and last year I created a board for wood flooring when we were renovating the floors throughout our entire home. I have saved a few ideas that I hope to bring to life.
