Pinterest’s most impactful Giving Tuesday yet

Folks in the US are returning to work this week, after what I hope was a restful and meaningful holiday. For my family in Iowa, Thanksgiving was always a bit of a cultural pastiche. My parents, both immigrants, knew to have (American) football on TV and both turkey and Tofurkey at the ready — but in place of sweet potatoes and pie, we’d mix in the comfort foods of shtetl life: Kasha and kugel and smoked fish. While we never really nailed the American cuisine, my folks always emphasized, and taught us to take great joy in, the quintessential practice of going around the table and giving thanks. That practice, and the reflection and inspiration that comes from it, remains my favorite part of the holiday.

This season, Pinterest’s Social Impact and Philanthropy Team wants to extend that spirit to everyone at the company on Giving Tuesday and beyond, regardless of whether they celebrate Thanksgiving. Through the end of the year, Pinterest is rolling out the most significant benefits and incentives ever associated with giving back at the company.  We’re announcing:

1. Our highest ever donation match benefit. Pinterest always matches donations on a 1:1 basis to qualified nonprofits and NGOs. We’re building on that already amazing benefit for Giving Tuesday by matching donations 3:1 now through December 3, and 2:1 through the rest of the year.

2. Our first ever Dollars for Doers volunteer program

- To make employee’s volunteer hours all the more impactful, we’re launching a Dollars for Doers program for all eligible employees. Through this program, we’ll match every hour an employee volunteers with a donation of $30/hour to the organization in which they volunteered.

- Pinterest gives all eligible employees 40 hours of volunteer time off every year. While we’re not yet able to volunteer together due to COVID, we encourage everyone to seek out local volunteer activities.

3. An environmentally focused end-of-year holiday gift that empowers every employee to give to organizations focused on climate change and sustainability. We’ve identified leading nonprofits and NGOs that are tackling those issues across multiple dimensions globally, and that have a proven track record of environmental impact.

We’ve intentionally shaped these programs in response to, and to better support, the amazing passion and commitment we’ve seen from so many colleagues this year, and we can’t wait to see what we’re able to accomplish together. We’re excited to share more on our 2021 giving achievements before year’s end. The Pinterest Social Impact and Philanthropy team wishes you a warm and inspired holiday season.
