An action-packed event recap by Life at Pinterest
On March 11th, Pinterest Recruiting hosted “A night with Pinterest Engineering” in our Toronto office inviting guests to learn more about building an inspired and inclusive platform for users around the world. We’re excited to share a full recap and insight on how you can attend events like this in the future.
Kicking off the evening with Charlotte Harris, Senior Sourcer
Charlotte welcomed guests to Pinterest Toronto and shared a snapshot of the evening’s agenda which included a panel discussion, breakout sessions and interview prep.
"One of the things that I love the most about Pinterest is that we are in a sweet spot for scale. We get to work on interesting and large-scale problems, while remaining a small team with opportunities to create big impact. It opens up a lot of space for a wide variety of backgrounds on our team, and I was really encouraged to see such a great range of experience and perspectives from the attendees at our event!"
- Charlotte Harris, Sr. Sourcer
An intro to Pinterest Engineering with Jeremy King, Chief Technology Officer
Jeremy grounded us in our mission - to bring everyone the inspiration to create a life they love, and gave an overview of how we’re intentionally building a more positive internet at Pinterest.
“At Pinterest, we tackle growth-driving challenges with innovative and creative solutions, and our team is growing in Canada. I couldn’t be more grateful for the opportunity to spend the evening with the Pinterest team and meet professionals eager to dive deeper into how we’re building a more positive platform and internet. It was an incredible night with 150+ attendees who learned more about Engineering at Pinterest.”
- Jeremy King, Chief Technology Officer
An engaging panel discussion
Next, we moved into a panel discussion with the people behind the product. Jeremy was joined by Whitney Mak (Engineering Manager), Tobi Abiodun (Staff Software Engineer), Monica Shver (Software Engineer) and Scott Hebert (Senior Engineering Manager) with Patrick Halina (Machine Learning Engineering Manager) moderating the conversation. Then, we opened the floor up to questions from our attendees.
“The panel discussion was a great opportunity for the engineering network to come together and discuss the great work Pinterest has been doing, as well as provide visibility to our community about some of the behind the scenes that drives Pinterest and its inspiring workplace!”
- Whitney Mak, Engineering Manager
"Our recruiting event in Toronto was an amazing opportunity to introduce the local tech community to Pinterest. There was a ton of energy from the crowd right up until closing time."
- Patrick Halina, Machine Learning Engineering Manager
Breakout Sessions & Interview Prep
After Q&A wrapped, attendees had the opportunity to participate in smaller breakout sessions with the discipline of their choosing - Monetization, Machine Learning, Infrastructure / General Engineering. During this time, they were able to dive deeper into life at Pinterest and the work that we’re doing to bring users from inspiration to action. The final breakout session was hosted by members of our Recruiting team who offered insight into the Pinterest Engineering interview process with their favorite tips and tricks. In addition to sessions, attendees were able to tour the Pinterest Toronto office.
