We’re kicking off Latiné Heritage Month with an employee spotlight from Pinterest’s Khylie Heins, Social Marketing Strategy Lead. We’re getting to know more about Khylie’s role, her take on 2024 social media trends, creators to follow and this month’s theme.

Hi Khylie! Thanks for joining us. Let’s start with a quick intro.

Hi! I’m Khylie Heins and I’ve been at Pinterest for three delightful years. I’ve worn a couple of different hats over the last few years, but it’s always been a cute social media hat! I’m currently a Strategy Lead on the Social Marketing team. In my role I get to help shape the strategy for @pinterest on Instagram, TikTok and Pinterest. In the briefest form, my role exists to ensure that we’re effectively reaching the right people, using the right channels in the right ways to accomplish our larger marketing goals.

Your role at Pinterest encapsulates all things social media. What do you love most about working in social media at Pinterest?

There’s so much I can say here! First and foremost, being able to play a role in managing social media at a social media company is an absolute dream come true. We are storytellers, and I’m proud of being able to work for a brand that prioritizes positivity above all else. Knowing that millions of people consume a positive message when they encounter our brand on social media? Yeah, that keeps me warm at night.

I’m also incredibly proud to be a Latina working in social media. Hispanic representation within advertising and marketing is quite low at less than 9% - which is a similar number to Latinas in tech - so I strive to advocate for the Latiné community through our marketing and especially on Pinterest’s social channels!

Which 2024 social trend has resonated with you the most?

This is HARD! I love anything that will make me and my friends giggle (I have 10+ meme chats where I’m relied on as the main meme slinger *hair flip*). Probably the “I feel like you’re just here for the zipline” trend that originated from Netflix’s I Think You Should Leave with Tim Robinson. So dumb, but so funny.

Which Latiné creators have inspired you this month?

Not necessarily a creator but I’m loving Jenna Ortega more than ever. I’m convinced she’d play me in a movie about my life, and I’m loving all her recent collabs and finding so much fashion inspo from her!

Loving sustainable fashion content from @chelseaasoflate. @cocoandbreezy are Afro-Latina twins who are DJs, producers and own a genderless eyewear company - a whole vibe! I also recently met an LA-based wellness teacher who is the founder of @latinaswhomeditate, and I love what she’s doing!

This year’s Latiné Heritage Month theme is “Mi Gente.” What does the theme mean to you?

Community, period! It’s all about belonging. Maybe while listening to the song by J Balvin for a deeper effect. 😂

What are you currently saving on Pinterest?

I’m in the process of preparing for a big move from California to Texas, so all of my recent Pins are home-related. The city slicker in me has no idea what to do with all the space I have to fill!
