Pinterest Benefits: Carlos Mavins's story on family planning and parental leave

My name is Carlos Mavins, and I’m a Recruiter on the University Recruiting team. I’ve been at Pinterest for two years, and I’m located in Atlanta, Georgia. In 2022, I married my wife, Ebony. I would love to share a short story with everyone about our fertility and pregnancy journey and how Pinterest’s benefit offerings supported my family throughout the process.

After a few months of trying to get pregnant, my wife and I went to a fertility specialist and learned about different options to get pregnant. We quickly found out that the family planning benefits that we have access to through Pinterest covered the IVF (in vitro fertilization) process. We proceeded with this option, and it was the best decision ever. Everything went smoothly, and the embryos were healthy. After a few months my wife was pregnant, and we welcomed our beautiful baby girl, McKenzie Mavins.

The part of the story that brings me to tears is, we would have never been able to afford the IVF process as it’s an expensive option. The only reason we took advantage of this was because of the benefits offered at Pinterest. The fact that the company supports fertility and family planning just warms my heart. When I held my baby for the first time all I could do was shed a tear, with so much joy and because she looks just like me (HAHA).

Then I was able to take advantage of our parental leave benefits. Pinterest parents around the globe can take 20+ weeks of parental leave. This was so necessary as a first time parent. I was able to be present and spend time with my little baby, and for that, I will always be grateful.
