We are looking for a Director of Writing to help us define our brand voice for the entire company. From how we write a tweet to how we craft a TED talk, your thinking will help guide and shape it all. This is a big, juicy role that’s going to impact every department at the company. Along the way, you’ll be writing for many audiences (like users, creators, advertisers, and press) and across many formats (like film, radio, digital, print, and social). We are looking for someone who is not just a strong copywriter, but a world-class creative leader. So you won’t just help make our stories sound better, you’ll help define which stories are worth telling to begin with.

What you’ll do:

  • Write, write, write. Write taglines and ad copy and speeches and blog posts and op-eds. You’ll be the pen behind the Pin. And that includes a red pen: You’ll edit the highest priority marketing by Pinterest
  • Lead a world-class team of writers on everything from social copy to long-form thought leadership
  • Provide oversight across the company on Pinterest’s voice and tone guidelines and develop tools that get everyone excited and informed on that voice
  • Set both the pace and quality standard for all work touched by our growing writing team
  • Proof-read and top-edit all work (either by rolling up your own sleeves or ensuring your team has the tools and talent to do so)
  • Craft must-read headlines, clear and concise copy-blocks, and unforgettable narrative arcs as needed
  • Craft compelling insights for b2b marketers, working in close partnership with our research team
  • Work with Pinterest executives to represent the company at events for creators/influencers, consumers and advertisers

What we’re looking for:

  • 10+ years writing for global audiences across multiple media
  • Someone willing to “lead by doing” (assume 75% of your time will be spent knee-deep in copy, writing alongside the team)
  • A strong portfolio of work that shows an ability to write in different brand tones and for different audiences
  • Ability to articulate strategically robust creative approaches
  • Evidence of world-class team management skills 
  • Confidence under pressure. Your work—and your words—will be literally put in front of hundreds of millions of people. You take that opportunity (and responsibility!) seriously
