At Pinterest, our mission is to brings millions of people the inspiration to create a life they love. Showing high quality and relevant ads is a part of this effort. We’re looking for a Data Scientist to partner with the Ads Quality - Ranking team to inspire people by surfacing high-quality ads. You’ll apply experimentation, quantitative analysis, data mining and data visualization techniques to improve the quality and relevance of ads on Pinterest. This role is located in Palo Alto but the new hire is expected to commute to the San Francisco office one day a week.

What you’ll do:

  • Perform deep dive analysis to understand drivers of Ads engagement, use causal inference techniques to identify effective interventions when necessary
  • Work with product managers and engineers to improve engagement prediction for key actions (e.g. video views)
  • Measure model calibration for Ads engagement model across segments and identify signals to improve them
  • Quantify relationship between engagement and other signals used in ads ranking
  • Design metrics that serve as the North Stars for team efforts and model trade-off decisions across product areas
  • Design experiments, measure results and provide a point of view in shipping decisions

What we’re looking for:

  • Advanced degree in a quantitative field with a proven track record of data-driven decision making in business settings
  • Expert in SQL and proficient in Python (or R)
  • 3+ years experience doing quantitative analysis or statistical modeling
  • Knowledgeable about the machine learning trade-offs and model evaluation
  • A self-propelled continuous learner who keeps up with new tools and techniques by taking online classes, attending conferences and getting his/her hands dirty
  • Knowledgeable about best practices around data manipulation, building data pipelines, feature engineering and creating dashboards
  • Ability to lead initiatives across multiple product areas and communicate findings with leadership and product teams
  • Experience in Ads will be preferred
