The Pinner Product Data Science and Analytics team drives innovation to our product and the value it provides to our Pinners through efforts that range from data mining and quantitative analysis to training, productionizing and experimenting with machine-learned models; we are looking for a seasoned Data Science and Analytics Manager to grow and lead a team of talented data scientists and product analysts to shape the evolution of our product.

What you’ll do:

  • Lead, grow, and develop a team of highly skilled data scientists and product analysts.
  • Solve key technical challenges in understanding and improving the quality of content on the platform.
  • Innovate in how we identify the most useful, relevant and inspirational content to surface to our Pinners when they browse their home feed, search for content, or step through our graph of inter-connected pins.
  • Identify potential opportunities through analysis and size the benefit of their impact on our user base.
  • Act as a thought leader alongside engineering and product partners; collaborate to realize changes in the product.
  • Mentor data scientists and analysts by providing continuous and candid feedback, recognizing individual strengths and contributions and surfacing opportunities to improve performance.
  • Drive quality, rigor, and actionable results within the team.
  • Construct a portfolio of investments across the team in projects that span a range of risk and reward.

What we’re looking for:

  • Advanced degree in a quantitative field with 8+ years of industry experience and a proven ability to apply scientific methods to solve real-world problems on web-scale data.
  • Demonstrated track record of managing a team with 3+ years of experience as a manager.
  • Experience preferably with all of:
    • Machine learning - approaches, model evaluation, trade-offs
    • Ranking and recommendation systems
    • Search products
    • A/B experimentation design and evaluation
    • Human evaluation
  • Demonstrated execution and impact on initiatives that cross multiple product areas and interface with leadership and product teams.
  • Self-propelled continuous learner who keeps up with new tools and methodologies and builds prototypes with concepts learned.
  • Hands-on knowledge of SQL and R or Python.
