About Pinterest:

Millions of people across the world come to Pinterest to find new ideas every day. It’s where they get inspiration, dream about new possibilities and plan for what matters most. Our mission is to help those people find their inspiration and create a life they love. In your role, you’ll be challenged to take on work that upholds this mission and pushes Pinterest forward. You’ll grow as a person and leader in your field, all the while helping Pinners make their lives better in the positive corner of the internet.

The Storage and Caching team owns and operates foundational infrastructure building blocks including HBase, memcached, and a number of critical services built on top of them (e.g., our in-house graph service, wide-column data store, indexed data store, distributed transactional database, near-real-time notification system, etc.). We embrace open-source and new technologies. Our mission is to build systems that are scalable, reliable, performant, efficient and user-friendly for our customer teams across the entire company.

What you’ll do:

  • Build the next generation Pinterest online storage service for structured data that is scalable, reliable, performant, user-friendly and cost-efficient.
  • Explore cutting-edge storage technologies and help drive their adoption at Pinterest.
  • Design and implement efficient solutions that ensure smooth migration of HBase to new storage backends (e.g., TiDB) on the scale of PBs of data.
  • Address technical challenges involved in migrating Pinterest infrastructure to multiple regions across the globe.
  • Support customer teams across the entire company. Investigate and resolve production issues for large-scale systems and their upstream/downstream dependencies.
  • Engage with the open-source community and help foster the open-source culture for Pinterest engineering.

What we’re looking for:

  • Experience or exposure working on distributed storage and caching systems.
  • Strong ability to work cross functionally with product teams and with the storage SRE/DBA team.
  • Fluent in Java, C/C++, Python and/or Go.
  • Good communication skills and an excellent team player.
